8 Tips For Driving A Car While Pregnant
Check out these tips for driving a car while pregnant.
Put the seatbelt below your stomach
When driving a car and wearing a seatbelt, always put the seatbelt below your belly. If you were to be in an accident, you don’t want the seatbelt adding pressure to your abdomen.
Push your seat back as far as possible when driving
You obviously do not want your belly hitting the wheel when driving, to make this a non-issue, simply slide your seat back as much as you can.
Airbags are okay
If you’re in a vehicle, it is okay to have the airbags on. In fact, having the airbag on will help add an extra layer of protection to you and your baby.
If in an accident, see your doctor
It doesn’t matter if you were in a minor accident or a major one, it’s always best to get checked out by your doctor. If you do not want to go in, you should call. Your doctor will want to keep this in your records.
Always wear your seatbelt
Whether you’re pregnant or not, always wear your seatbelt. Seatbelts save lives, it’s a proven fact.
If you’re going to be driving while pregnant, make sure you’re well rested and alert. Since your alertness depends on the life of you and your baby, it’s vital. You can drink a small cup of coffee prior to driving a long distance, to ensure your stay wide awake. If you have older children that can also be distracting, be sure to find ways to keep the peace in the car.
Keep your cell phone handy
The further along you are, the more risky it is to be in a car for a long period of time. Keep your phone charged and ready, just in case. If you go into labor, you’ll want to be able to reach an emergency contact right away.
Make sure your gas tank is full
Before you head anywhere while pregnant, make sure your gas tank is full! Getting stranded on the side of the road isn’t fun for anyone, but it’s especially not fun for a woman who’s very pregnant.
