How to Make Your Own Taco Seasoning

How to Make Your Own Taco Seasoning

Are you looking for an easy DIY taco seasoning recipe? I want to share the one my family has used for years. It not only saves you money and hassle, but this seasoning has no MSG, no sugar, no artificial colors or preservatives, and is lower in sodium.

The recipe below is for one small batch of taco seasoning that will yield a couple of uses. I double the recipe and store it in an airtight container in my pantry.

HOMEMADE TACO SEASONING

2 T chili powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
1 tsp. dried oregano
2 tsp. paprika
4 tsp. cumin
2 tsp. sea salt (more or less, to taste)
2 tsp. black pepper

Mix all ingredients together in an airtight container. Close tightly and shake to combine.

HOW TO USE

To make tacos, use 2 T (more or less) of your homemade seasoning to flavor each pound of meat (ground beef, chicken, fish), etc. If you’d like the mixture to be more saucy, add 1 teaspoon of cornstarch or flour to the meat after it’s been cooked. Mix well and pour in 1/4 cup of water. Bring to a boil, and then quickly reduce the heat while you simmer until the sauce thickens.

Enjoy!
