Some days are a lot easier than others, on those other days, I feel like an angry mom. It’s not the mom that I want to be and I try hard to stay calm, be the mom that I want to be, but you can’t do and be everything all the time. At some point, you are going to reach your breaking point. What can we do to be a calm mom, not an angry mom?

Young children test boundaries, do things that aren’t good things to do. They yell, scream, wake you up in the middle of the night, and refuse to sleep. It’s normal, it’s what happens. We have to remember to not take it personally.
Let’s Make Time for Ourselves
Grab a glass or cup of your favorite beverage, a book, and sink into that book. When was the last time you read a book for yourself? Go to a movie with some girlfriends. The point is to do something for yourself.
Make a Plan for Calming Down
- Tell your kids you “need a minute” and go to another room
- Stop what you’re doing, turn around, and take a deep breath
- Put your child (or children) in their rooms or beds so you can take some time
- Go for a walk/run, even if you have to put the kids in a stroller
- Scream into a pillow
- Clean maniacally
- Call a friend
- Stay well rested
- Find a hobby to turn to at this time
It’s OK to admit to your children that you made mistake when you yelled or sent them to their room. Apologizing to them is setting a great example, we’re all human and make mistakes. Letting them know we all have bad moments at times, and we have to work through them.
